Single Review: “Hands Up” by Like Clockwork
I wish I knew about this song from Like Clockwork at the beginning of the summer because “Hands Up” would have been my official summer jam. Jesse Owen Astin, the man behind Like Clockwork, delivers pop gold with this radio friendly single for his upcoming album These Are All Things. The dance party vibe will instantly perk up your mood, no matter how down you are. The well-written lyrics set the scene for that moment when a person has to decide to just let loose and then dealing with the consequences that sometimes come with it. I'm sure those teens, fresh out of their parents' homes, can all relate to this. With my memories of that spontaneous trip to South Padre when I was 19, I know I've been there. Astin shows with this song that he has discovered his sound since his first album Kill The Word. Comparing this single to that album, the song writing is tighter. Astin sings with more confidence. The production value is higher. So while I patiently wait for the release of These Are All Things, “Hands Up!” will be on heavy rotation on my iPod until then.
